Hulla
23rd October 2008
Hulla
Starring
Rajat Kapoor.
Sushant Singh.
Darshan Jariwala - Special Appearance
A new trivial concept is elabrated to the extent of its snapping of debutant director Jaideep Varma’s so called simple comedy ‘Hulla’.
The movie says the story of a stockbroker Raj Puri ( Sushant Singh ) who is not sleeping at night because of the night-watchman in the housing society he’s just moved into who keeps blowing whistles in the midnight. Even though Raj’s wife thinks Raj is over-reacting, the sleepless Raj takes up the matter with the building’s secretary Janardhan ( Rajat Kapoor ).
Janardhan( Rajat Kapoor ) is a loser in life who’s constantly at the receiving end of his wife’s taunts, Janardhan the chairman of the society, he make a point that his power and he won’t let any new resident commer change the way things operate with the society.
Raj’s nightmare only worsens, thanks to his over-noisy neighbours. Gradually his life is goes for a toss and he is driven to the point of paranoia (disease)
Rajat Kapoor with Sushant Singhtogether rise above the film’s script to deliver performances that keep you some smile. Kartikadevi Rane as Sushant’s wife has a small role which she plays efficiently.
The director shows audacity in picking a mundane, yet relatable, subject and stretching it to a full-blown story. If only he had built some plot progression in the second half and if only he had gotten rid of unnecessary sub-plots.

Arjun
23rd October 2008
Arjun, starring actor Darshan is produced by distributor Jayanna together with his three friends, Mohan Kumar, Nagendra and Bhogaraj and directed by Sahuraj Shinde. Sahuraj Shinde has earlier directed Darshan in Snehaana Preethina. The film an action thriller has Darshan playing title role as a police officer. Actress Meera Chopra or Nila of Kollywood is the heroine of the film with Ragasiya appearing in an item number and Sanjana in a song sequence.
This is the 100th film of action director Ravi Verma. The highlight of the film will be its climax scene, which is shot at Dhanushkodi near Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. Music for Arjun is by Hari Krishna.
Darshan is one of the top Kannada film stars and he says he prefers doing mass oriented roles rather than films that try to convey some message to the audience. And true to his word, most of his movies boast of a high dose of commercial ingredients and less of logic in the content.
The actor should realise that his successful films like “Gaja” were good content-wise and had a believable story line. Unfortunately “Arjun” has a poor story and an illogical plot, and therefore it fails to enthuse the audience, who had a lot of expectations from the movie.
Darshan is one of the top Kannada film stars and he says he prefers doing mass oriented roles rather than films that try to convey
Darshan has played a cop in two films - “Ayya” and “Swami”. The story of these films were inspired from successful Telugu and Tamil flicks. And Om Prakash Rao, the director of “Ayya”, was capable of infusing some novel elements in his film.
But “Arjun” director Sahuraj Shinde is not all that talented when it comes to innovation and novelty.
In the film, he has added many sequences that do not relate to the main story line. “Arjun” drags from the first reel on and there is no respite for the audience thereafter. Moreover, the so-called comedy sequences are amateurishly handled.
Harikrishna and dance director Tribhuvan’s impressive work notwithstanding, “Arjun” may not appeal even to frontbenchers.
Darshan plays the title role of “Arjun”. The hero’s father is a rich man who wants to see his son as an honest cop. Thanks to his affluent father, Arjun splurges on petty criminals and reforms them so they can work as informers to help the police department.
During the course of his investigation and feedback from reformed criminals, Arjun zeroes in on three top criminals. And with his meticulous and intelligent planning, Arjun wipes off all the baddies in the end.
Darshan has performed his role with remarkable ease and he shines in the fight and dance sequences.
But Delhi girl Meera Chopra fails to make an impact in her first Kannada film and Sanjana is completely wasted. Veterans Anant Nag and Oorvashi have very little to do while villains Suman, Sharath Lohithashwa and Ajay just scream throughout the movie.
Harikrishna has composed two good songs - “Balle balle” and the title song. Ravi Varma’s action sequences are a real treat.
But the lack of a believable story is the main drawback of “Arjun”. Fans will be utterly disappointed with this film mainly because Darshan repeatS the same commercial formula like in all his films. “Arjun” is just an average film.
Bombaat
23rd October 2008
Golden star Ganesh and ravishing beauty Ramya starring film for noted producer Rockline Venkatesh has been titled as ‘Bombaat’. For something wonderful it is complimented as ‘Bombaat’. The film shooting is going at Rockline Studio in the direction of senior director D.Rajendra Babu.
This is a fun and frolic film with usual Ganesh contents and of course Ramya is there as glamour queen on screen says D.Rajendra Babu who has taken up his 51st film. His 50th directorial venture is starring ‘Bindhaas’ starring Puneeth Rajakumar and Hansika Motwani for producer Chandrasekhar.
The oldies taking up young sensations film is a new development in Kannada off late. The young actors are happy to work with veteran directors because they could learn something which they would not know from young crop of directors.
The film’s heroine Shalini (Ramya) comes from abroad to find that a street rowdy called Anand (Ganesh) is on the rampage. But what she doesn’t know is that Anand is a good samaritan at heart.
At the same time, Shalini meets a sadist, the son of a mafia don, who wants to marry her at any cost. The heroine’s father is a police commissioner, who turns to Anand for help to take on the mafia and agrees to let Shalini stay with the rowdy for a month - sounds unbelievable but more follows.
Anand uses his guile and intelligence to defeat the mafia. Shalini, meanwhile, starts liking Anand after staying with him for 30 days and decides to marry him.
Ganesh has tried hard to relate to his new image, but a talented actress like Ramya has very few opportunities in the film to act. All the other veteran artists too have been wasted in “Bombaat”.
Music director Mano Murthy impresses with two songs “Maathinalli Helalaarenu” and “Maathinalli Helutheeni” rendered by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. The songs and fight sequences are well picturised and the camera work of Shekhar Chandru is also impressive.
Go for it only if you want to see Ganesh in his action avatar.
